Destiny 2: Beyond Light Trailer Shows 10 New Exotics | Game Rant

Bungie has given fans a fresh look at the upcoming exotic weapons and armor in Destiny 2: Beyond Light with a bombastic trailer. After the anticipation created by Destiny 2’s October 7 teaser, the new showcase video offers something that will please everyone from melee brawlers to sharpshooters.

There has been no shortage of Destiny 2: Beyond Light news lately as the expansion is just a month away. And now Destiny 2 fans get a much closer look at the gear and weapons that will be available in the Beyond Light expansion.

This new Beyond Light trailer is packed with scenes showcasing what the new exotic abilities allow for. To start off, the first exotic weapon shown is the No Time to Explain pulse rifle. Landing precision hits or any type of hit on enemies under Stasis will return the fired bullets to the magazine. Doing this enough times summons an orb that hovers next to the player, laying down additional fire on the enemies. This is similar to the Stormcaller Warlock’s Arc Soul ability and is a great backup when reloading and especially when there are no other players around.

Next is the exotic sniper rifle called Cloudstrike. This weapon will summon lightning on the target’s location upon landing a precision final blow. Landing multiple precision hits in quick succession will summon a whole thunderstorm at the enemy position, clearing out other combatants that happen to be nearby. This looks like an evolution of the Dragonfly perk but it could be much more useful since the second trait’s wording makes it sound like the storm can proc on a single tanky target.

Sword masters should be very happy with the addition of The Lament. This chainsaw inspired bladed weapon starts to spin up while blocking. When revved up, hitting a shielded enemy will destroy their barrier, and even heal the player if the blade was fully spun up. This includes Barrier Champions in activities like the Nightfall: The Ordeal Strikes.

An exotic grenade launcher like no other, Salvation’s Grip was actually teased during the Xbox Games Showcase trailer. Bombs lobbed by this weapon will generate Stasis crystals at the point of impact, encasing any enemy close by. Charging up a shot will increase the effectiveness of the projectiles as they generate more spikes of Stasis in a larger radius.

There were two pieces of exotic armor showcased for every class. Titans first get Icefall Mantle, the gauntlets that replace the Barricade ability with an Overshield. This increases the Titan’s ability to soak in damage and truly act as the tank role in a team. This is great for the class fantasy and fits perfectly in an MMO setting. Titans also get Precious Scars, a helmet which grants an Overshield to the wearer and nearby friendly targets when someone gets revived. This is great utility for players who like to take the support role in a team. It is one of the few support themed gear similar to the Lumina exotic hand cannon.

Hunters are getting the exotic helmet Mask of Bakris which replaces the Dodge class ability with a blink movement ability. Using this propels the player a longer distance than the Dodge while also cloaking them for the duration. The Bladedancer subclass in Destiny 1 had a blink ability, so this exotic might let players experience that style of play once again. Secondly, the Arthrys’s Embrace exotic gauntlets significantly improve the throwable knife of the bottom tree Gunslinger subclass. It lets the knife ricochet two times off hard surfaces, granting extra damage and a stagger effect when the player lands multiple swift precision hits.

The Dawn Chorus is a Warlock helmet which synergizes with the Solar subclasses. It increases the damage of the Daybreak super ability and adds a burning effect to its projectiles. Burning targets grants melee energy, creating a vicious fiery cycle. Just like the other classes, Warlocks get exotic gauntlets too, namely, the Necrotic Grip. Themed after the Hive, this exotic poisons enemies on melee hit. The poison effect builds up over time, and killing an inflicted target spreads the plague to nearby enemies while restoring melee energy. It could be especially fun, and deadly, with ranged melee attacks like the Dawnblade Celestial Fire.

All in all, there’s lots to dig into in today’s showcase. Almost all of these pieces of gear heavily alter existing playstyles. This is excellent for creating build diversity, and providing players the chance to live out the fantasy they want from their characters.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A PS5 version is also in development.
