A new exploit is causing chaos in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Search and Destroy game mode. Using a feature found within the game’s engine, some fans have found a way to make the Modern Warfare multiplayer match unwinnable for the defuse team. Using a simple system, players can make defusing the bomb impossible.
In Modern Warfare’s Search and Destroy, two teams compete over a small map to try and defend or destroy an objective. Once a bomb is placed by one team, the other team must defuse it before time is up. However, a player discovered a way to make the bomb deploy in an unreachable spot, immediately surfacing a massive in the Modern Warfare game mode.
This bug was discovered by Reddit user OGGigi. In a short video, he describes the process needed to cause the bomb to rise above the ground after being planted. The way to trigger this glitch is simple, requiring only a trophy system and a bit of skill. By placing a trophy system near the objective, players can place the bomb on top of it, then destroy the trophy system. Once the equipment is destroyed, it will cause an explosion that shoots the bomb into the air, making it unreachable.
This is only one of many Search and Destroy bugs that have been discovered associated with the trophy system. It wasn’t long ago that a glitch was found that would cause throwing knives to float inside of the bomb and kill anyone nearby. Coined as the “Blender Trick,” the glitch cost many fans entire games due to its prominent use.
If more bugs become discovered, Search and Destroy may lose some of its popularity. It is unknown if Infinity Ward is aware of the exploits and bugs associated with the trophy system, as it isn’t on the community Trello board yet, but as the exploit becomes more popular it will continue to have a higher chance of catching the developer’s attention.
Still, there is no guarantee that fans will use this exploit to win a match. As glitches, exploits, and bugs continue to be a common problem many fans will simply avoid taking advantage of unfair systems. Yet, there is still a fragment of the Call of Duty community that will use this exploit to win their matches. The best deterrent is to simply avoid the bomb in those situations, as the round can still be won through player elimination.
