Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent Reveals Villain in New Trailer

Octopath Traveler proved to be a huge hit for Square Enix by taking the still-fantastic style of pixel work from classic SNES-era RPGs and updating it for modern tastes. The game scratches a nostalgic itch for a lot of players, so it comes as no surprise that Square Enix is diving back into the world of Osterra with Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. The mobile title has been building hype by releasing short trailers featuring some of the antagonists players will face.

The game will serve as a prequel to the events in Octopath Traveler, so while it is unlikely that cast members from the original will show up, the new mobile title will be retaining almost everything else. The look, music, and mechanics have made the transition to mobile well. The only concern for western audiences now is if the game will make it overseas. At this time, Champions of the Continent is only releasing in Japan.

This latest trailer showcases Titus, a warrior in pursuit of power, looking to start a campaign of fear to get what he wants. The trailer shows fans what the game will look like, and it looks to have captured what made Octopath Traveler such a success. The trailer ends with a short peek at the battle system which looks almost the same, except that there appear to be 4 duos on the player’s side of things instead of just 4 characters on the player’s side seen in the original.

The throwback look that has worked for Octopath is one that has also worked for another Square Enix franchise, Bravely Default. That franchise is also lurking on the horizon, with Bravely Default 2‘s release date possibly getting an announcement soon.

But for now, fans of Octopath Traveler are waiting to hear if this mobile title will be leaving Japan anytime soon. Square Enix keeps dropping juicy little Octopath trailers for fans, making the wait even more excruciating.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be released on October 28 on Android & iOS in Japan.
