Alita: Battle Angel Returning to Theaters | Game Rant

The theater industry continues to prop up its struggling business with anything it can to keep the gears turning. While cinemas across the country made some headlines by bringing back classic films like Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back into showings, it had seemed that when new films came around, they would abandon that method. Now that Tenet hasn’t done as well as expected however, it seems some locations are returning to re-runs while new films are pushed back. The latest film being dusted off for new screenings is Alita: Battle Angel.

The original release of Alita: Battle Angel in North America ended up being a flop, garnering only $86 million on a budget of $170 million dollars. While the film did much better overseas, earning $404 million worldwide, there’s been no real talk of a sequel or any kind of continuation for the project, leading many fans to raise their voices in demand for a new film. Perhaps this new wave of release can help the film gather a little more attention, making the case that there are in fact enough fans out there to make a new film profitable.

For those unfamiliar, Alita: Battle Angel is based on a famous Manga of the same name, starring an anime-eyed cyborg with extraordinary abilities and severe memory loss. From there Alita goes on to participate in all sorts of exciting action set pieces as she goes about uncovering her past. In anticipation of the re-release, producer James Cameron tweeted that he stands with fans and that the film would be returning to theaters on October 30th.

For the time being, there isn’t much info about how many theaters will be showing the film, but it is confirmed that Cinemark will be screening the film in a limited release. It’s a great opportunity to see a film audiences may have missed the first time around, or give another viewing to a movie that could use some more love. That is, of course, if you’re willing to take the risks associated with public viewing of a film during the Coronavirus pandemic. That’s a decision audiences will have to make for themselves when the film begins its return to theaters on October 30th.
