There are a few ways that alert video game fans can get their hands on news before game companies are quite ready to share it. Besides stores occasionally posting items for sale before they’ve even been announced, job listings are one of the primary methods used by video game news sleuths to acquire information. In that vein, a recent job listing shared on LinkedIn has revealed that Pixelopus, the developer of the action-adventure title Concrete Genie, might now be working on a PS5 game.
In the LinkedIn job post, the Sony first-party developer announced that it is currently looking to hire two software engineers to work at the company’s headquarters located in San Mateo, California. The first position is for a senior game engine programmer and the second will be a senior gameplay programmer role. The new hires will have the opportunity to work on a “new and exciting PlayStation 5” adventure but, unfortunately, no other details about this upcoming title were revealed.
The senior game programmer hired to work at Pixelopus will ideally be a person proficient in C, C++, and assembly programming with experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and the PlayStation Software Development Kit, or SDK. They will be able to architect and implement game engines in a way that increases functionality, performance, and memory efficiency, and must have at least six years of professional work experience, a Master’s degree, or an equivalent combination of the two.
The other software engineering position currently open at Pixelopus has similar qualifications to the first in regards to programming languages, but knowledge of the PlayStation SDK will be considered beneficial and not a requirement. The person applying to be a senior gameplay programmer at the company will need either a Bachelor’s degree or two years of work experience or training. This applicant must also have knowledge about how to design and implement gameplay systems.
The second title developed by Pixelopus, 2019’s PS4 exclusive Concrete Genie garnered mostly positive reviews from critics and players alike and received a number of awards. It is a single-player game that offers an approximately six-hour runtime, and it can be optionally played using the PlayStation’s VR headset. The game puts players in the shoes of Ash, an imaginative teenage boy who sets out with his magical Living Paint to return life and color to the polluted walls and rundown buildings of the abandoned town of Denska.
Concrete Genie is available exclusively on the PS4.
