Yesterday, Sony announced that it is introducing a new feature to the trophy system on PlayStation consoles. The latest update should be available now, and the biggest change players will notice is that the level range of trophies is now at 1-999 from the previous range of 1-100. Now, shortly after the big announcement concerning trophies, it appears that Sony has accidentally leaked another major trophy feature for its upcoming next-generation console, the PlayStation 5.
In a now-deleted blog post published on the French PlayStation Blog, it has been revealed that PS5 players will now be able to track their progress towards unlocking individual trophies. This feature will allow players to see what they still need to do to acquire the specific trophy they are targeting. Of course, if this leaked feature eventually gets added to the trophy system on the PS5, then it is most definitely a welcome addition. However, it is worth noting that this leaked feature has been available on Xbox consoles for several years now.
At the moment, it is unclear why the French PlayStation Blog decided to delete the announcement regarding the tracking feature in the trophy system, given that this new feature could have been the perfect follow up to the latest update that increases the level cap of trophies from 100 to 999. Of course, the likeliest scenario is that Sony made the announcement earlier than intended, which is why they quickly deleted the post in hopes that no one would see it.
However, it is worth noting that while Sony still hasn’t commented on whether the feature is indeed coming to the PS5 or not, the fact that it came from the company itself is an obvious sign that it is genuine. The only question now is whether Sony will make it available to the next-gen console at launch, or if it will be added in a future update.
Meanwhile, the competition between Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X is getting heated now that both consoles’ release dates are now only a month away. Yesterday, reports surfaced that Xbox Taiwan poked fun at the PlayStation 5 on social media, with Xbox pointing out all the similarities between the PS5 and a giant skyscraper. Of course, while the photo remained cryptic, many believe that Xbox is implying that the Xbox Series X and S are both reasonably sized, while the PlayStation 5 is a giant that could easily tower over some of the worlds tallest buildings.
The PlayStation 5 launches November 12.
