Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta Update Adds VIP Escort, New Level Cap, and More

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s multiplayer beta is live now for PS4 owners that have pre-ordered the full game, giving fans a chance to see everything that’s changed since last month’s alpha test. Today marks the second day of the Black Ops Cold War beta, and so now Treyarch has introduced some new content to the game for fans to try this weekend.

The headlining new addition to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta is the debut of the VIP Escort mode. VIP Escort is a brand new multiplayer match type making its debut in Black Ops Cold War, wherein one person is randomly selected to be the “VIP” of the round. The VIP’s team has to escort them to an exfiltration helicopter on the map, while the enemy team does their best to kill the VIP. Players have to work with limited lives the entire time, giving the mode some significant stakes.

While trying out the new VIP Escort mode, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta testers will be able to gain XP and level up, in turn unlocking new weapons. Previously, the Black Ops Cold War multiplayer beta level cap was 16, but now players can grind their way up to level 25. Along the way, they will gain access to weapons like the Krig 6, AK-74u, War Machine, and more, as detailed in the official tweet about the update.

Of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta testers don’t have to hit level 25 to get the most out of the beta. As long as players manage to reach level 10, they will unlock the Mutual Animosity SMG weapon blueprint for use in Black Ops Cold War once the full game launches on November 13.

More changes are coming to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta later this weekend. On Saturday, October 10, the beta will open to all PS4 players, regardless of whether or not they’ve pre-ordered Black Ops Cold War. The same maps will be available, giving players the chance to battle it out on Armada, Cartel, Crossroads, Miami, Moscow, and Satellite across a variety of different game modes. The Combined Arms Assault mode will also be added to the Black Ops Cold War beta on October 10. Those interested can participate until the Black Ops Cold War multiplayer beta wraps on October 12.

Next weekend, yet another Black Ops Cold War beta test will take place, and it will add PC and Xbox players to the equation. Next week’s Black Ops Cold War beta will be open to all PS4 players from the start, so fans will have more opportunities to try the game prior to its November launch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
