Pokemon GO will be welcoming the fall season with three days of autumn-themed tasks, rewards, and encounters. Now that the new seasonal event is underway, Pokemon Trainers are able to find and capture the adorable Season Pokemon, Deerling, and its strong-willed evolution, Sawsbuck.
While the arrival of these new season-sensitive Pokemon is surely a highlight, this weekend has plenty of Pokemon GO bonuses to offer. Aside from Deerling and Sawsbuck’s Autumn Form making its debut, players will benefit from event-themed 5 km eggs, event-themed wild Pokemon, and even unique research tasks and passive bonuses.
First and foremost, the event runs from October 9, 8 AM to October 12, 1 PM (PDT). Niantic’s announcement promises more changes to egg hatches, and additional “exciting changes” from October 12 to October 19 as well, which makes sense considering that players have until October 19 to complete the autumn Timed Research.
The two event headliners are Deerling and Sawsbuck, best known for their tendency to change appearance and scent along with the seasons. Given the current time of year, the two will be appearing in their Autumn Form, but players should expect Winter, Spring, and Summer variants to eventually make appearances. In light of the fall harvest, berries are also being featured throughout the event.
Players will not only benefit from extra berry effectiveness, but also earn additional berries from every spin at a PokeStop or Gym. Pinap Berries will award double candy, and berries offered as treats will be doubly effective; players will also be able to complete berry-themed Field Research and the aforementioned autumnal Timed Research.
“Autumn-themed” Pokemon, such as Yanma, Pineco, Plant Cloak Burmy, and Foongus, will be appearing more frequently in the wild, alongside the elusive Shiny Vulpix. (To be clear: Shiny Vulpix is not appearing more frequently. It is simply appearing, though thankfully, no 7-11 purchase necessary for this Shiny Pokemon). Although Alolan Vulpix has been appearing as a Shiny for some time, Shiny Kantonian Vulpix had been missing from Pokemon GO until this event’s start.
Autumn-themed Pokemon will be hatching from 5 km eggs as well and, more importantly, 1/4 hatch distance is in effect until the end of the event. The boosted hatch distance is particularly noteworthy because it went unmentioned in Niantic’s announcement. Hopefully, the bonus is intentional and stays throughout the event. Especially considering the recent backlash to the removal of pandemic bonuses.
Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
