Insomniac Games announced that both Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man Remastered have gone gold, meaning that they’re done being developed and will be ready for launch day. The announcement marks a huge milestone for the game, which is one of the biggest titles of the PlayStation 5’s launch line up.
Insomniac has steadily released new details about the game since its initial reveal. The new game, which is less of a sequel and more of a side game, is one of the first major titles for the PS5, boasting improved visuals and frame rates over the PS4 predecessor of the game. For an additional cost, the game comes bundled with a remastered version of the PS4′s Spider-Man game.
The Spider-Man remaster has made some unpopular changes, specifically in regards to the recasting of Peter Parker’s face model. The remaster doesn’t feature PS4-to-PS5 save transfers either, which has also been a point of contention among fans. Miles Morales itself, however, has received a warm reception thus far, which is promising for the launch of the PS5.
Miles Morales isn’t the only mid-November launch to go gold in the last few days. Cyberpunk 2077 went gold recently amid a flurry of controversy, due to the studio implementing mandatory crunch. The move has drawn criticism from multiple corners of the internet, many accusing CD Projekt RED of going back on its word after it previously stated it wouldn’t implement crunch periods.
This November is a particularly big one for the games industry. While it’s traditionally crowded with triple-a video game releases launching in time for the holiday season, this November will see the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the two new game consoles from Sony and Microsoft, respectively. The first Spider-Man game was a hit for Sony, so it makes sense that the company wants another one to launch alongside its new console.
Of course, that’s only a piece of the launch line up. Other major titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Demon’s Souls Remake will also launch near the PS5, one of the biggest new console release schedules in recent memory. PS5 pre-orders have been a debacle, which may affect reception on release day, but it is shaping up to be a nice time for gamers, if everything goes smoothly.
All fans can do in the meantime is wait. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is coming to PS4, so it isn’t strictly necessary to have a PS5 to play it, though it will certainly be the flashier version of the game.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches November 12, 2020, for PS4 and PS5.
