Microsoft will be ushering in the next-generation of video game consoles on November 10 when it launches its Xbox Series X and S consoles. With just a month to go until the Xbox Series X launch, Microsoft has released a new live-action commercial that hints at various Xbox Series X games, starring Daniel Kaluuya of Get Out and Black Panther fame.
The commercial starts with Kaluuya playing Xbox Series X and finding himself transported to various worlds. While no games are explicitly named in the commercial, it seems to make reference to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Destiny 2: Beyond Light, two games which will be available for the Xbox Series X at launch. Other titles that are possibly hinted at in the commercial include the Xbox Series X console exclusive horror game Scorn, as well as Bloober Team’s The Medium, which is set to launch on December 10.
The game featured most prominently in the Xbox Series X commercial is Halo Infinite, despite the fact that the game was delayed to 2021. Halo Infinite‘s delay seems to have had a profound impact on Microsoft’s marketing plans for the Xbox Series X, as the game and Master Chief have been featured extensively even though they won’t be making an appearance at launch.
This Xbox Series X commercial will air on TV beginning on October 11 during the NFL game between the Vikings and the Seahawks. For many who don’t follow the gaming industry closer, this could very well be their first introduction to the Xbox Series X console, as well as its cheaper Xbox Series S counterpart. It’s a bit strange, then, that the commercial is missing some key details that one would want to know if they plan on buying an Xbox Series X console.
For one, the commercial does not explain the difference between the Xbox Series X and S. And secondly, it doesn’t include the Xbox Series X release date or price. Presumably, the goal is for people to become interested enough in the Xbox Series X from the commercial that they will seek out this information for themselves, but whether or not that’s effective remains to be seen.
Vague commercials that are light on details or substantial gameplay footage are nothing new for video game consoles. In fact, Sony is running a similar commercial for the PS5. Regardless of their bizarre commercials, though, both consoles are expected to sell significantly this holiday season, to the point where both console manufacturers have warned of shortages.
Xbox Series X launches November 10.
