Shortly following the announced delay of No Time to Die, current Bond actor Daniel Craig appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show to discuss the film and his experiences as Bond. During the interview he discussed what it was like to be offered the role, and what his thoughts were on the recent delay. On top of that, he also had a quick word of advice to whoever plays the role next.
Though he enjoyed taking on the role immensely, there were times when it seemed he had no more interest in playing the famous secret agent, which led to him taking a break between the previous film Spectre and No Time to Die. Despite that, Craig was eager to get started when it came time to start work on his final film in the franchise. “I’m so glad I came back and did this last one. The story, it just didn’t feel complete and I needed a break. Once I had and we started talking about storylines and things we could do I was like, ‘I’m in.'”
Craig also had a lot to say about how he came to accept the role, and what it was like after he finally did. The actor admitted he was sworn to secrecy, but told his mother anyways, describing how the press attempted to squeeze any info they could out of her. He also mentioned having a small personal celebration immediately after accepting, buying himself a glass and some vodka at a nearby Whole Foods.
There was also some time for reflection of the legacy of the Bond films and what it meant to Craig. He declared that, of the many theme songs in the franchise, his favorites were “Skyfall,” “Goldeneye,” and “Nobody Does it Better.” The actor also mentioned that the delay of the film was partially due to a desire to see it release worldwide at the same time, so everyone could experience it at once, something that isn’t possible at the current moment. When asked what he’d say to the next James Bond, however, Craig kept it short and sweet: “Don’t fuck it up. It’s a beautiful amazing thing.”
No Time to Die is currently scheduled to release in Spring of 2021.
