As current fighting games linger through DLC to lengthen their life cycle, there is one new fighter on the horizon. Fans of high octane anime fighter action have eagerly awaited any news regarding a release date for Guilty Gear Strive, and now those players know when to get their arcade sticks ready.
Confirmed via a new trailer, Arc System Works announced that Guilty Gear Strive will release next year on two separate dates. Guilty Gear Strive will be coming to the PS4, PS5 and PC on April 6 for Ultimate and Deluxe Edition buyers while the Standard Edition will release on April 9. The Standard edition and Ultimate editions will be released in both physical and digital formats while Deluxe will be digital only. With Guilty Gear Strive announced for PlayStation 5 back in August, it will also feature a physical release.
The recent trailer also provides details on the numerous versions players can buy alongside some information on the game’s season pass. Outside of just the three day early access to Guilty Gear Strive, both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions will be packaged with Season Pass 1. The first Season Pass will feature 5 additional characters, 5 additional colors for the roster, two new stages and finally an “Extra Story” mode. Ultimate Edition buyers get the added bonus of digital soundtrack and artwork with extra color packs.
While Guilty Gear Strive is seemingly first “new” fighting game on the horizon, it won’t be the first of the genre to grace upcoming hardware. NetherRealm Studios recently announced that Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. It is another re-release of Mortal Kombat 11 with the gory fighter being available just after both consoles launch.
With the new April release date, it seems that Strive‘s delay due to COVID-19 was quite severe. While the game may just be missing out on the next-gen launch window, anime fighting fans are still excited for the next entry in the franchise.
Guilty Gear Strive will release on April 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners can play the title on April 6.
