Square Enix Teases New Bravely Default 2 Information | Game Rant

Upcoming Switch RPG Bravely Default 2 will have a news update in the near future, according to the series’ Twitter page. The team behind the hotly-anticipated game has gone quiet the last few months, but a new announcement could reveal when Bravely Default 2 is releasing in the near future.

Bravely Default 2 is actually the third main game in the Bravely Default series. Bravely Default and its direct sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, both took place in a world known as Luxendarc and told an ongoing story. However, Bravely Default 2 will be set in a new world. Even so, it carries over hallmark Bravely Default gameplay mechanics, such as a battle system centered around storing and spending actions. The last major news for the game came in March, when a Bravely Default 2 demo released via the Switch eShop.

The Twitter post includes sketches of Bravely Default characters by character designer Naoki Ikushima. It teases that new information will be coming soon regarding Bravely Default 2. The new update appeared as part of a tweet marking the 8th anniversary of Bravely Default‘s well-received release on the 3DS in Japan, though Americans did not get the game until 2014.

Fans have been expecting Bravely Default 2 news for some time. The game was announced with a 2020 release date, and development was apparently far along by early 2020 given the game’s demo. It is possible that the COVID-19 pandemic slowed development, but recent evidence signifies that hasn’t had a huge effect. In September, the Australian Classification Board rated Bravely Default 2.

Fans of the series are likely curious as to how the sequel will improve on the first game after a Square Enix producer apologized for the supposedly low quality of Bravely Second: End Layer in April. It’s possible the new game’s developers are hesitant to revive that controversy by releasing many pre-release game details. If that’s true, details may only come out right before launch.

That said, many fans are excited to see the return of Square Enix’s innovative turn-based RPG series. Bravely Default 2 comes at a time when titles like Final Fantasy 16 shift away from turn-based fights. The Bravely Default series instead finds ways to change things up within the context of turn-based combat, such as utilizing clever and complex job choices. Hopefully, the upcoming news update means fans won’t have to wait long before they can try out the new game.

Bravely Default 2 is set to release for the Nintendo Switch by the end of 2020.
