As the popularity of a game like Among Us grows, more often than not fans will take part with fan-art, cosplay, memes, and sometimes even cakes.
Twitter user @c0smikat has created a a cake showcasing the different characters in Among Us with a focus on hats, a murder in progress, and the emergency button capping off the top. The cake was made as a thank you to developer Innersloth as @c0smikat and her friends have enjoyed the game since it has surged in popularity, with 41 million downloads of Among Us in September alone.
The small indie game has become so popular that developer InnerSloth canceled the development of Among Us 2, instead focusing on adding new content to the original game like new mini-games, user-created maps, and adding more pets to tag along with players. Originally Innersloth was developing a sequel due to the original game having a dated code-base, making it difficult to make changes.
Currently the developer is working on some new ideas being implemented in Among Us that would give players more to do when in ghost form. Dying in the game restricts a player to only work on tasks and unable to interact or communicate with alive players. A key concern is to keep things balanced for both crewmates and impostors, while it’s currently unknown what changes are coming, it could involve assisting fellow crewmates or hindering an impostor’s progress.
One major concern fans are looking to have addressed is the focus on colors for players which can be difficult to discern for those with visual impairments. With communication in the game mainly done in a chatroom under a time limit, many players use short form to cast suspicions so common sayings like “red is sus” will help speed up a conversation. This has led to some difficulties with some colorblind players having a difficult time in Among Us seeing certain colors or differentiating one color from another.
Meanwhile InnerSloth is also considering ways to port Among Us to consoles in the future. With the focus on chat as a primary means of communication the developer would have to implement voice chat or a quick chat function in Among Us, but the idea of the game being brought over to consoles will certainly boost its popularity with whole new audiences being able to play.
Among Us is currently available on Android, IOS and PC
