Fans of the popular Capcom franchise Devil May Cry were surprised with the announcement of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition during Sony’s PlayStation 5 Showcase last month. This definitive edition of the game features an assortment of new features for next-generation consoles, as well as an opportunity to finally be able to play as Dante’s evil twin brother, Vergil. Now video footage has surfaced of the game running on a PS5, with many fans shocked to see how fast the game’s load times really are.
The footage comes from a Japanese YouTube channel where they have been doing a series of videos trying out the PlayStation 5. In this video around the 21-minute mark, they decide to pull up Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition to show players how fast its load times really are. After pressing ‘Mission Start’ for Mission 2 of the game, players can see that the game takes a mere four seconds to load with a button prompt appearing in the bottom right-hand corner. This is a massive difference in comparison to the current-gen version of the game which can sometimes take over 25 seconds.
These quick load times might be yet another reason for fans of the Devil May Cry series may consider moving to the next generation of consoles. While players on PS4 and Xbox One will also be getting an opportunity to play as Vergil in the game, the character will only be accessible as a paid DLC character, rather than being available from the start like in the Special Edition. These two factors combined together may sway some players’ decision on if a PS5 is worth the $500 price tag.
While players on console seem to be receiving a lot of love from Capcom, PC players seem to be left out of the fun. It was recently revealed that the PC version of Devil May Cry 5 would not be receiving ray tracing support, unlike its console cousins. Capcom has stated that this decision was made simply due to the fact this version of the game was designed with the new consoles in mind.
PS5 isn’t alone when it comes to fast load times. Recently, Microsoft released a new video displaying how fast loading into a game on the Xbox Series S will be with Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds. Featuring a blistering-fast load of only 11 seconds in comparison to the Xbox One S’s 53 seconds, it seems clear that these next-gen consoles are designed with speed in mind.
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will release as a launch title on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
