Echo Steals the Show in Overwatch’s Halloween Terror 2020 Event

October is here, and that means it is officially spooky season. The annual Halloween Terror event returns to Overwatch on October 13, bringing in some new spooky player icons, sprays, and skins.

There’s just been a small teaser and a handful of skins to look at, but that’s should change soon with it starting tomorrow. Echo, Winston, D.Va, Sigma, Sombra and Brigitte are the first skins to be revealed, but it’s likely more will go live soon. After all, the Overwatch Halloween Terror event is starting soon.

The Echo skin is the immediate stand out skin of the bunch, as it looks phenomenal. The normally tech based and robotic hero is turned into a cloth-made voodoo doll with a pair of mismatch button eyes and a stitched mouth to create the perfectly off-putting Halloween design. Arguably, it’s the best Overwatch Halloween Terror skin revealed so far. It’s unfortunate that Echo isn’t a more popular hero, but for those that do enjoy playing her this skin will probably be the first one to catch their eye.

As for Sombra and Brigitte, their skins leave a lot to be desired. Brigette looks like she’s been turned to stone and given some orange cracks on her skin, and that’s about it. Sombra just looks like a zombie in different colored clothing than she usually wears. These skins aren’t bad, just not nearly as good looking as the other ones. Luckily, these two heroes have skins from other events that are much better options, with Sombra having a much better Halloween Terror skin from Overwatch’s 2018 and 2019 events.

Fans don’t get a very good look at her mech in the video, but they do get to see a lot of D.Va herself. She’s dressed up like a “Kumiho” or “nine-tailed fox,” a creature that appears in the tales of the legends of Korea. This skin is beautiful, especially with its attention to details such as the translucent tails and flower decal on her skirt. As for D.Va’s mech, the brief glimpse shows fans the top. It appears to have a shrine-like aesthetic to it, matching the Kumiho’s spiritual theme. It’s hard to say if this is D.Va’s best skin simply because, over the years, Overwatch has delivered plenty of great D.Va skins. But this one is certainly up there and definitely worth getting.

Sigma is given the ghostly pirate treatment and he looks pretty good too, but certainly nowhere as good as Echo or D.Va. It’s been a while since Overwatch released its last pirate-themed skin, and this one fits in quite nicely along with Corsair Ana and Blackbeard

Lastly, there’s the Winston skin, which is somewhat hard to see. Nonetheless, he looks about as terrifying as an angry gorilla scientist can be, and truthfully, that’s all that matters. Hopefully when details for the event are released on the Overwatch official website, Winston’s new skin can be properly viewed in all of its glory.

Along with the new cosmetics, everything from the previous Halloween Terror events will be returning as well. This includes skins such as Gorgon Lucian, Banshee Moira, and the iconic Witch Mercy skin. Also making a return is the Junkenstein’s Revenge game mode. Four players choose from a select pool of heroes and protect the gate of Adlersbrunn Castle from a horde of Zomnics created by the mad scientist Dr. Junkenstein. Blasting endless hordes of Zomnics truly capsulizes the Halloween Terror experience, as is the fun in hearing the characters quip and chat with each other throughout the match.

Halloween Terror 2020 will end November 3, giving players three weeks to collect as many of the cosmetics as possible before the event ends. Finally, it’s worth noting that fans can only obtain this year’s skins with loot boxes but skins from previous Halloween Terror events can be bought with credits.

Overwatch is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
