Thanks to a few new videos that have been posted on various sites, we’ve got our first proper look at Dirt 5 running on the Xbox Series X.
The game, which was first delayed until mid-October and then again to November, will be one of the first games optimized for Xbox Series X that you’ll be able to play once the console comes out.
The next-gen version of the game will come with a variety of modes: a framerate mode runs at a stable 60fps but kills resolution, a resolution mode which performs constantly in 4K, and a 120fps mode which will only run on TVs with HDMI 2.1 or higher.
Thanks to some new videos from GameSpot and Venturebeat, we can see the game in action – running directly off an Xbox Series X.
As you can see from the videos above and below, there’s a lot to be celebrated in the various game’s 120fos mode.
“What’s so exciting about Microsoft emphasizing 2160p120Hz gaming on Xbox Series X is that developers might build their games to hit that resolution, that framerate, or both,” writes Geoff Grubb over on Venturebeat. “To maintain that high framerate, developer Codemasters Cheshire turns down the graphical options. It’s likely also using a dynamic resolution, but you don’t really notice that.”
Grubb goes on to explain that the smooth framerate, which is almost constant at 120fps, is something that even his high-end PC struggles to maintain. It’s a good first look into what the Xbox Series X can promise, then.
Dirt 5 is compatible with Microsoft’s Smart Delivery service, which is why you’ll be able to carry on playing where you left off, no matter what hardware you’re playing on.
Those who purchase the Amplified Edition of Dirt 5 will get early access to the game three days ahead of its general launch on November 3.
