Rockstar Games Purchases Crackdown 2 Studio | Game Rant

Known for its work on 2010’s Crackdown 2 among numerous other projectsRuffian Games has slowly but surely become a big name in the games industry. The team received a lot of acclaim for helping turn Halo: The Master Chief Collection into a substantial celebration of the Halo franchise, helping port Halo 3 and to the collection as well as recently bringing Halo: Reach to the remastered experience as DLC.

It seems the studio’s library of work has impressed at least one industry giant, with Rockstar Games recently acquiring the developer. Ruffian Games will now go by Rockstar Dundee, joining the likes of Rockstar London, Rockstar San Diego, and Rockstar North underneath the publisher’s banner.

Rockstar Games and Ruffian Games have been collaborating since last year, with several developers who worked on Manhunt and Grand Theft Auto currently residing at the studio. What they will work on together going forward is currently unknown, although it seems likely that Rockstar Dundee will act as more man-power for whatever Rockstar focuses on during the emergence of next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Ruffian Games has shown it has a knack for chipping in on longstanding projects, with Halo: The Master Chief Collection evolving drastically since its debut back in 2014, so it will likely be an invaluable extra pair of hands for Rockstar to work with.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will officially be returning to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with a standalone release set for Grand Theft Auto Online. The latter will be PlayStation-exclusive for the first three months of its launch, with PS Plus subscribers able to play for free in that time period.

Other than that, Rockstar has been silent on what its follow-up to Red Dead Redemption 2 will be, though many fans assume the publisher will eventually return with Grand Theft Auto 6Whatever its next project turns out to be, it will be interesting to see whether the newly-branded Rockstar Dundee plays a big part in its development.

The talented team is sure to be a huge asset to Rockstar going forward, so chances are they could be a significant part of the publisher’s foray into the next-generation. In the meantime, players are still enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2 Onlinewith the game recently adding a legendary moose among a number of other crucial additions and much-needed game fixes.

Rockstar Games is currently working on a Grand Theft Auto 5 port for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
