Star Wars Squadrons is the latest Star Wars entry to hit the shelves all around the world, much to the excitement of gamers and Star Wars fans. There have been a ton of Star Wars media since the birth of the franchise, from movies, comic books, TV series, novels, and video games. While many expect and welcome playing from the perspective of a Jedi Knight or a Sith Lord, this game lets players be a pilot in the world of Star Wars, and it does so spectacularly.
Within the game are eight different starships, belonging to four different classes. The players can either choose to play as a New Republic Vanguard or a Galactic Empire Titan and engage in the story or play online. While the line between these starships in terms of quality and the level of fun it brings is pretty thin, it can be argued that one starship can be better than another based on its default attributes. It should be noted that the efficiency of these ships will ultimately depend on the pilot controlling them.
8 TIE/SA Bomber
The Imperial’s bomber ship is a bulky and sturdy piece of hardware, heavier-looking than all the other starships in the Imperial’s arsenal. The Tie Bomber does not come with a shield generator, but pilots shouldn’t feel its need considering the ship’s incredible armor rating. Being a bulky ship, what the Tie Bomber has in defense, it lacks in agility.
It is by far the least responsive and most difficult starship to maneuver, which makes this ship a very easy target. It can be overwhelmed pretty easily and very frequently. Pilots will need to be aggressive on the offensive and destroy the enemies first before they become surrounded and outnumbered. The ship has a very comfortable forward field of view. This ship was first introduced in the beloved film Empire Strikes Back in 1980.
7 RZ-1 A-Wing
The RZ-1 A-Wing is the New Republic’s Interceptor starship. It is prominent for its impeccable ability, though it is not as durable as the other starships in Star Wars Squadrons. The A-Wing is a very vulnerable ship, but pilots controlling this ship will easily be able to sway around the map, evade opponents, and fly through spaces with considerable debris.
This ship is perfect for taking out a capital ship’s turrets and forging on a dogfight head-on. It has clear visibility on its front, sides, and above. The ship was first introduced in The Return of the Jedi in 1983.
6 BTL Y-Wing
The New Republic’s BTL Y-Wing Bomber is a formidable and highly resilient starship. It is equipped with strong armor and a sturdy shield generator, making it capable of lasting on the battlefield longer than any other starfighters in the game. While the ship is tough, it is also recognizably slow. This lack of speed makes the ship unideal for chases, and also very susceptible to it.
The Y-Wing was first shown in the very first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, in 1977. Being a bomber, this ship is very effective against capital ships. It has an unimpeded forward and sides views.
5 TIE/IN Interceptor
The Imperial Tie Interceptor is considered to be the fastest starship to ever grace the battlefield of space. Its incredible speed makes it a highly volatile starship and a formidable challenge in space dogfights. It is capable of outrunning many starships and can evade missiles when necessary.
The starship, unfortunately, has a very low armor rating; it also has no shield generator. Because of this, the starship slowly relies on its agility to gain an upper hand in combat. The starship has a clear forward view, but everything else is pretty much obstructed. The Tie Interceptor was first introduced in Return of a Jedi.
4 TIE/LN Fighter
The Imperial Tie Fighter is the Galactic Empire’s most recognizable starfighter. It has an iconic look which all the other starfighters deviate from. It is a fighter ship formidable enough to go against any other starfighter, granted the pilot is skilled enough to handle this machine. The Tie Fighter is as average as it comes.
It is equipped with twin engines which allows it to speed through the battlefield. Its armor is fairly standard and so is its speed. It is perfect for any pilot new to the arena. Its front view is unobstructed, but the same cannot be said for the rest of the viewpoints. The Tie Fighter first appeared in A New Hope.
3 T-65 X-Wing
The T-65 X-Wing is the Rebel Alliance, and now the New Republic’s flagship starfighter. It was built to be an all-around starfighter, capable of battling it out with any starfighter in the galaxy. It has average maneuverability, average armor, it comes with a shield generator, and its firepower is pretty straightforward.
While the X-Wing seems like a milquetoast fighter ship, it is the go-to option for any pilots who wish to employ a “jack-of-all-trades” strategy. It has a clear, unobstructed view on its front, above, and sides. The X-Wing was first featured in A New Hope. A different variation of the X-Wing, a T-65B X-wing starfighter, was Luke Skywalker’s trustable flight option.
2 TIE/RP Reaper
The Tie Reaper is the Galactic Empire’s trusty support starship. It is integral to the survival of the squadron. It can be argued that, if used correctly, the support ships are the most vital starships in the game. The Tie Reaper comes with repair droids that can be used on ally starships. It is also the only Imperial starfighter in the game that comes with a deflector shield.
Its maneuverability is fairly average. The ship is not meant to be used to clash with other starships head-on due to its weak firepower. It has an unobstructed view on its front, above, and sides, as well as a decent sight below. The Tie Reaper made its first appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
1 UT-60D U-Wing
The UT-60D U-Wing is the New Republic’s support starship. It can provide a much-needed repair to the other starships in the team squadron. It is also capable of scrambling an enemy starship’s systems. The starship has high armor and is capable of deploying a deflector shield. On top of this, its maneuverability is average and its firepower is relatively weak.
It has an unobstructed front, above, and sides view. The U-Wing support starship first made its appearance in a comic book. Particularly, the Star Wars: Poe Dameron comic by Charles Soule.
