There is a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The title is set to build on the incredibly successful Call of Duty franchise and add a new addition to the Black Ops series which is favored by many fans. With the game approaching its release this holiday season, players can begin experiencing the title earlier through its beta. However, some have wondered how the beta gaming sessions will impact the game when it is finally released.
There has already been speculation about the changes that will appear in Cold War, with some hoping for improvements on the rebooted Modern Warfare. Players who do not own a PlayStation will finally be able to get their experience of the gameplay this weekend and players will have something new to work towards. Rather than building into the progression of the final game, the beta will offer its own closed progression system for players to work toward.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War website offers insight into how progression will work in the beta version of the title. The beta itself will have its own unique progression system that will allow players to acquire new abilities and items, but this will not impact the fully released game in any way. The website notes that the experience gained will not carry over to the title, but there are still incentives to play the game at this stage. Players will receive a weapon blueprint as well as a character for Call of Duty: Mobile if they participate.
Playing the beta will give players access to the Zeus Weapon Blueprint at level 10 of the main game and the gun is an Epic SMG. Equally Call of Duty Mobile players will be rewarded with a new playable character called Alder. These incentives may tempt players, but many will be interested in seeing how the new title plays and whether it can beat previous experiences regardless of the bonuses. If Cold War can please fans at this early stage, it will likely be a huge commercial hit.
Many are interested to see what Treyarch has been working on and the beta is an ideal opportunity for fans to get hands-on experience. Nonetheless, the beta will receive updates before it is released and with that in mind, it makes sense that progression systems will largely be held back until the release of the full game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
