Apex Legends Rated for Nintendo Switch | Game Rant

Respawn Entertainment confirmed its popular battle royale Apex Legends would be releasing for Nintendo Switch in fall 2020 during EA Play earlier this year. A specific launch date for Nintendo’s hybrid console has yet to be provided, but it seems the developer may be gearing up to release the port soon given it has officially been rated by the American Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB).

The information provided by the ESRB is not particularly noteworthy in itself, as its ‘T’ rating for including blood, realistic gunfire, large explosions, and detailed finishing moves is shared across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. However, the timing of its availability is in-line with recent teasers for Apex Legends Season 7 and the game’s ongoing crossplay beta test.

Whether or not the Switch version of Apex Legends will release alongside Season 7 is currently unclear, but from a marketing perspective this would likely be a smart move for Respawn Entertainment and EA. The most recent update on this port was provided at the beginning of October when director Chad Grenier said the Apex Legends team is “still working” on its Switch port, and was unwilling to provide anything further.

While work continues on the Nintendo Switch version in the background, content is still being rolled out for Apex Legends fans  who are waiting on the arrival of Season 7. New skins for Apex Legends‘ 2020 Halloween event as well as a new limited-time mode were recently leaked, and it is believed that the event will start on October 22 based on details provided by a prominent dataminer.

There are also apparently plans to improve the popular battle royale title in other ways. Respawn Design Director Jason McCord recently said a real-time damage meter is one quality-of-life improvement being considered for Apex Legends, which would give players the opportunity to see how much damage they’ve dealt without having to wait for a match’s result screen.

Though the timeline for many of these future events, improvements, and the Nintendo Switch release date is fuzzy, it’s clear Respawn Entertainment is eager to keep improving its game as much as possible for a long time to come. Apex Legends is one of the stand-out titles to come out of the current battle royale craze in terms of its ongoing player count, and that’s sure to hold true when another platform is added to its availability.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version currently in development.
