The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Predicted to be Best Selling Game in the Franchise

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been a huge hit for Nintendo and it has managed to cultivate a significant audience. The more open-world focused gameplay earned The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild critical acclaim and it has gone on to sell over 20 million copies. Naturally with this success, the game has picked up new fans and it seems that industry analysts believe that this may translate to an even bigger amount of sales for Nintendo when a sequel arrives.

At the moment, not much is known about the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There has been a short and enigmatic trailer but this has led to fan conjecture rather than a solid outline of the upcoming plot. Despite this, many are expecting an impressive game that builds on the innovations that Breath of the Wild brought to the series. If the next title can do this, then it seems that the hard work by Nintendo will pay off hugely. At least that is the case if an analyst from Wedbush is to be trusted.

Michael Pachter expressed his confidence in the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and compared it to the original, “I think it will sell more. Bigger install base and the brands that everyone buys Nintendo systems for are Zelda and Mario Kart and Smash Bros. And how many Switches will be on the market by the time the next Zelda is out, 75 million? They will probably have no trouble selling 25 million units of the next Zelda game, they will probably sell 35 million, even 40 million.”

This is a logical way to understand how sales can increase and there will undoubtedly be a greater player base who has the system when the next Zelda game arrives. The analyst went on to note their personal preferences and explain how delays could actually help some of Nintendo’s most successful franchises.

Pachter notes that his personal favorite franchises on the Nintendo are Mario Kart and Zelda before adding that delays and waits may play into the favor of these games. He claimed that the long wait for the next Mario Kart is likely because Nintendo is trying to gather the biggest audience possible. Equally, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild not having a release date may actually favor Nintendo and lead to the impressive milestones that the analyst has projected.

Despite this impressive projection, the next Zelda game will still need to improve on the existing series in order to make an impression on possible players. Nonetheless, if Nintendo can deliver a satisfying product then the logic of Pachter looks solid and the game could be a landmark success for the developer.
