The quest Time and the Wind is an extensive adventure that will see players crossing the ocean and having to think outside the box quite a bit. Unfortunately, like some other Genshin Impact quests, the quest objectives can be a bit misleading at times, and players may find themselves confused when the objective is to simply “uncover the secret of the uninhabited island.”
Getting to this location is hard enough, but once there players still have to solve a few puzzles. Genshin Impact makes this an enjoyable endeavor, though it would be nice if the quest objectives gave a little more context. This part of the quest is actually much simpler than it seems.
In actuality, all players need to do in order to progress the quest on the secret island is find a journal, at which point the next step of the quest will start. Players having trouble finding it just need to know where to look, as the circle on the map is rather large and elemental sight doesn’t help the player locate this item.
The Ragged Notebook can be found at the southern tip of the quest area, on the coast of the island. Players will see a tent nearby and a big mound of rocks; these rocks must be broken to reveal the item underneath. After breaking the rock, players can pick up the notebook and continue the quest, with Paimon making commentary about the writings in the notebook. Players don’t have to read the notebook in order to complete the quest, but it will help solve some of the puzzles ahead like how to observe the shadow on the sundial.
The notebook gives some background to the island, and it is revealed that its original owner believes this place to be a lost shrine to a god of time. There’s further speculation about the Anemo god Barbatos‘ connection with the god of time, and the writer muses that there must be some evidence of that connection here if it is true. They then go on to explain that the island feels different during the hours of 2 AM and 5 AM, a hint for later on in the quest.
Deciphering this book helps players to realize that the next portion of the quest must occur during the hours of 2 AM and 5 AM, and that wind magic will be necessary to complete it. Players will need to disperse clusters of wind next, and hopefully this knowledge helps them accomplish that goal.
