The Elder Scrolls Online ESO Plus Free Trial Begins | Game Rant

Now through Monday, October 19th, 10:00AM EDT, non ESO Plus players can take advantage of a free trial period of The Elder Scrolls Online‘s membership service. The upgraded membership entails all sorts of extra perks that expedite progress as well as grant access to the entirety of The Elder Scrolls Online‘s DLC.

ESO Plus is typically a subscription based membership program with variable payment options designed to reward subscribers with additional permissions and conveniences. Despite The Elder Scrolls Online‘s shift from a mandatory subscription to play model at its release to a pay-to-play model transition in March of 2015, ESO Plus offers some considerable benefits to willing subscribers.

Most notably, a subscription to ESO Plus grants access to all 17 DLCs currently released for the game, including Thieves GuildDark BrotherhoodElsweyr, and the most recent DLC Stonethorn. Aside from content, an ESO Plus subscription grants the purchasing player a monthly stipend of crowns, ESO’s in-game premium currency, used in the purchase of various cosmetics and boosts. Some additional welcomed conveniences are the caps on various currencies being doubled, such as transmutation crystals, and double bank space for more item storage. Also included is a constant ten percent increase to experience, gold acquisition, crafting inspiration and trait research rates. Subscribers are also given exclusive deals within the in-game crown store as an extra avenue to spend their monthly allowance of crowns.

While the subscription-based monthly payment model can prove unappealing to some, The Elder Scrolls Online‘s offering of a free trial is a sound strategy to allow players to experience the benefits of the membership without monetarily committing. The current pay-once-to-play model utilized by the game still proves lucrative with the presence of in-game micro transactions beside the revenue from ESO Plus. Considering The Elder Scrolls Online launched in April of 2014, making the game a little over six years old now, the team’s ability to retain its nearly 2.5 million active monthly player count remains impressive and the result of the team’s hard work in supporting ESO with content.

Given the timing of MMO contemporary World of Warcraft‘s release of its pre-patch for its next expansion Shadowlands, The Elder Scrolls Online team’s decision to keep players interested in the property is no coincidence. The free trial of ESO Plus can be claimed in-game from the crown store, no payment necessary, and any progress made during the free trial will remain after the trial period.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
