The Xbox Series consoles are highly anticipated by fans who are ready for the next generational leap in consoles. While the Xbox Series X will deliver impressive specifications the Xbox Series S will give players a cheaper option with scaled-down capabilities. But even though the technology that is being used in these systems is new and innovative, there does seem to be an air of nostalgia surrounding their release. Now, there is good news for fans of the older Xbox generations.
The packaging for the Xbox Series X is already seen as reminiscent of the original Xbox and the company has played into that nostalgia further with hashtags. Players who write #JumpIn on Twitter will notice that the old tagline for the 360 now creates an Xbox Series X emoji. It seems that these nostalgic nods to the legacy of the Xbox consoles may be tactical, and it ties in with the backward compatibility practices that the consoles are implementing. The latest nod is the ability to move Xbox 360 saves from the cloud at no cost.
Players used to have an Xbox Live account to transfer games, but this restriction has been eased. Instead, players will now be able to begin downloading their saves on games that are backward compatible with the Xbox Series X and S as soon as they turn on their system. This will likely please players who invested heavily in previous generations, as well as those who still enjoy Xbox exclusives from the past such as the original Halo trilogy and the Fable games. With that said, some players may want more than this handy feature for old games.
Despite the new consoles’ backward compatibility with a large number of games and the expansive Xbox Game Pass, some players want to see the next generation of Xbox consoles deliver more exclusives. With games like Halo Infinite pushed back, some have felt that the launch of the upcoming Xbox consoles may be lackluster. With that said, a huge catalog of existing games may tempt those who have yet to be convinced by the multi-platform games coming at launch.
This move seems to enable players and once again echoes the sentiments of Phil Spencer, who noted that backward compatibility was best for players. With this in mind, many who still enjoy classic games will be pleased with the news that they can now download old saves and games at no cost.
The Xbox Series X and S are set to launch on November 10, 2020.
