Digimon Survive Officially Delayed | Game Rant

The newest take on the Digimon series, Digimon Survivehas been an exciting prospect for franchise veterans ever since it was first announced for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One back in 2018. The survival strategy RPG was initially meant to debut in 2019 and supposedly puts a large emphasis on player choice, with a branching narrative that will allegedly ensure no two playthroughs are exactly the same.

It was pushed back to 2020 in July 2019, but unfortunately, it seems Digimon Survive fans are going to have to wait even longer to get their hands on the next iteration of the iconic franchise. In a new statement, the game’s producer, Kazumasa Habu, reveals that Survive will be pushed back to 2021 due to the unfortunate limitations brought about by the pandemic.

“The Digimon Survive team would to extend our thanks to fans from around the world for their support during development,” Habu acknowledges during the beginning of his statement, continuing to preface that it’s been motivating in these “difficult times.” According to the producer, the team had a firm plan to launch Digimon Survive in 2020, however, the “current world events have shifted [its] development timing.” Habu goes on to once again thank fans for their patience and understanding, reminding them that the experience will be “a fun and engaging tactical RPG game along with a memorable story for Digimon fans.”

As for whether or not there’s a new release date for Digimon Survive going forward, Habu doesn’t say, although he does hint that fans can expect some new information during Spring 2021. For those following the development of the game, this news likely doesn’t come as much of a surprise, with Habu responding to a fan concerned about the game’s development a few days ago on Twitter. There, he was very open about the fact that Digimon Survive was not ready to hit shelves just yet, telling eager fans that they just need to wait a little longer.

Digimon Survive joins a growing list of games greatly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with 343 Studios delaying Halo InfiniteEmber Lab having to postpone the debut of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and Arkane pushing back Deathloop due to the spread of the disease. The good news is that players will almost certainly get a better game when Digimon Survives launches in 2021, with the developers not having to rush it out the door without being certain that it’s the best Digimon game to date.

Digimon Survive will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2021.
