Everyone is binging something nowadays, so why not monetize it while slowly drifting out of sanity? This Halloween, one lucky horror fan in the U.S. will have the opportunity to spend 24 hours watching a nonstop stream of frightening films with a $1,000 reward waiting for them at the end.
The interesting folks over at CableTV.com and HighSpeedInternet.com are looking for applicants to take on a dream/nightmare job for one night. Applicants and/or victims will have to fill out a form as well as a short bio explaining why they should be the one to take on this terrifying task. The winner will be paid $1,000 to simply sit at home and watch movies. Clearly someone’s high school guidance counselor is about to be proven wrong.
Aside from the ultimate prize, the chosen applicant will also receive some anti-sleep aid in the form of a $50 Starbucks gift card, which should be about enough for half a cup of coffee and the faint smell of a cookie. With the fuel and the motivation, there’s sure to be a deluge of applicants for this chance to live the American dream. One of the only requirements is that the winner must live tweet updates as they go through their marathon. Even though the very existence of Twitter feels like a punishment these days, it still seems to be a small price to pay.
The lucky horror fan will even be able to choose which films they watch, with seemingly no restrictions other than at least a vague connection to the horror genre. The application page itself even lists the bizarre cult favorite Tammy and the T-Rex as a possible choice, so those with questions can rest easy knowing their most surreal choices will most likely be acceptable.
Not much else is required of the ultimate horror aficionado for this prime opportunity. Any U.S. citizen over the age of 18 is eligible, assuming they can adequately prove their knowledge and passion for the genre. Presumably, an extremely open schedule is also mandatory. Honestly, though, it isn’t difficult to imagine someone calling in sick at the last minute to spend the day watching trashy horror flicks, even without being paid for it.
Odds are many of the people interested in this were already going to spend Halloween in a similar fashion, so why not make it official and apply? Nothing has ever gone wrong when people turn their favorite pastime into a job. Nope. Never. But seriously, if this sounds interesting, go check it out. Can’t hurt to try, right? The closing date for entries is October 19, so get hopping.
