In an interesting new order, Netflix has recently struck a deal with Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges to create and produce an animated musical kids show. The rapper and actor has been working on the show, titled Karma’s World, for which Netflix has decided to order 40 11-minute episodes. It follows a young Black girl, inspired by the artist’s own daughter Karma, as she finds her voice and uses it to change the world.
The show will feature Karma Grant, who wants to be a musician and rapper. Using her talent and her empathy, she channels her feelings and ideas into her rhymes that are catchy, witty, and uniquely her own. As she continues to hone her abilities, she begins to realize the power that her words can have, and starts to share her passions in the hopes of changing the world forever.
In a statement about the show, Bridges reflected on what the project meant to him, given his own musical career: “I’ve had a lot of accomplishments in my life, but everything that I’ve experienced seems to have led up to this point to where I can leave a legacy for all my daughters. Karma’s World is one of those legacies.” He also expanded on his hopes for what the series could mean to it’s young audience: “I hope this series will show kids that there are many ways to overcome difficult situations. This show is going to move hip hop culture forward, and show young girls that they have the power to change the world. This project has been a long time in the making and I can’t wait to bring Karma’s World to the entire world.”
The series is currently being made by 9 Story Media Group and the appropriately named Karma’s World Entertainment. It will premiere on Netflix and feature original songs tackling issues like body-positivity, self-esteem, and expressing emotions. It remains to be seen when exactly the show will launch, but hopefully, when it does, it lives up to the hopes of both Bridges and its young audience.
