With the second season of The Mandalorian due to drop on Disney+ very soon, showrunner John Favreau has been talking about the possibility of a movie spin-off. “We’re definitely open to it,” said Favreau “and excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility, because there’s no rulebook now.”
Even star Pedro Pascal is keen to portray the quiet bounty hunter on the big screen, talking to Variety, Pascal said “I think that the work is so beautiful that I would love for that to be held by a big screen experience.”
The Star Wars spin-off featuring Din Djarin (the Mandalorian of the title) and the adorable Child (aka Baby Yoda), quickly became the most demanded show in the world. And despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, Favreau seems confident that season 3 of The Mandalorian could go into production pretty soon. “We’re operating under the assumption that we’ll be able to go forward. We’re in very small situations and oftentimes we have a lot of characters in masks, and we also have a lot of digital work that augments things. So we’re a show that’s probably well-equipped to be flexible based on the protocols that are emerging surrounding work restarting.”
Favreau also mused about how his time on the Marvel Cinematic Universe has influenced his work on The Mandalorian saying, “I learned a lot from my experience over at Marvel, where it was very organic. You’re paying attention to a larger story arcs and characters that could come together, but also smaller stories of individual characters. The key here is keep maintaining the quality and never scaling to the point that we’re losing sight of what’s important to us and what people like about the show.”
The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on Oct 30.
