One of the perks of playing Bungie’s Destiny 2 is getting to partake in exciting World First raid races. The game’s next race for first has now been officially unveiled and promises players a familiar race with a clear recommended Power Level.
Followers of the series should be no strangers to the concept, but nonetheless, “Raid Races” are essentially Bungie’s way of rewarding the Destiny 2 fireteam that completes the raid first. Guardians hoping to partake in the next one should apparently be aiming for Power Level 1230 if they want to be as strong as possible.
Most notably, fireteams can earn real-world rewards for their in-game endeavors as a Guardian by partaking in these Destiny 2 community challenges. The first fireteam to complete the Beyond Light raid is forever memorialized by Bungie with special title belts made just for the occasion and distributed to each team member. The winners will also be celebrated in an awards ceremony that will take place in the days following the raid.
Unlike past World First raid races where Bungie can almost instantly verify a completion, the developer wants to take its time to ensure no cheating has taken place. The fastest fireteam to complete the raid will be independently verified by Bungie (which may delay the announcement of results), and only those Guardians will receive physical prizes.
The upcoming Destiny 2 raid race will commence on November 21, 2020, at 10 AM (Pacific), a little over a week after the release of the Beyond Light expansion. It’s a particularly special occasion because it will also likely be the first major event to occur after the release of the highly anticipated sequel, Destiny 2: Beyond Light.
Aside from the date and time, players should also know:
- Contest Mode during will once again be active for the first 24 hours that the raid is active. As a result, players will be capped at 20 Power Levels under the recommendation for each encounter.
- For the first time during a Contest-modified raid race, Artifact Power will be disabled.
- To meet the level cap for every encounter, teams should hit at least 1230 Power Level (without the Artifact bonus). Anything over 1230 is pointless while Contest is active.
Guardians typically plan weeks (or months) in advance for the World First raid race, but those that haven’t started preparing have some clear goals now. Hoarding bounties will be pointless this time around when it comes to Artifact Power, but it is still useful for unlocking Mods on the Artifact.
That being said, players who persevere and complete the raid will still be eligible for rewards, regardless of completion time. Fireteams that manage to complete the raid will all earn the new red and white emblem seen above, whereas Guardians who manage to complete the raid during the first 24 hours will also earn the unique purple emblem.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. Beyond Light will be released on November 10, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox Series S|X, and on November 12, 2020 for PS5.
