Destiny 2‘s newest expansion, Beyond Light, is right around the corner. During the wait, players have been getting their hands dirty in Festival of the Lost, the in-game Halloween event, by attempting to farm new cypher decoders for the chests at the end of the activity. While expecting to uncover secret objectives within the event, the community has been notified that there won’t be a hidden quest in this year’s Festival of the Lost event.
Prior to this announcement, dedicated Destiny 2 fans had been busily theorizing about what the event may still have to offer. So far, Festival of the Lost 2020 has been riddled with secrets and curios, from obstacle courses to stray objects in the event space.
Adding fuel to the fire were tweets by the Japanese and Korean Destiny Twitter accounts which vaguely reported that there will soon be a type of clue hunt event within Festival of the Lost. The clarification came courtesy of community manger dmg04 who stated that the announcement was for an upcoming trivia contest limited to the Asian regions.
The initial announcement tweets could’ve spiraled into a massive, yet fruitless, secret hunt were it not for the follow-up message. Players were already anxiously wondering what the Ascendant Lens, rewarded for grinding out the event currency, would be used for. It is a legendary rarity item, unlike the grey colored novelty items sometimes given to Guardians after the completion of certain quests. Moreover, it clearly hearkens to the much sought after Ascendant Shards and the magnification objects seen in the Dreaming City, indicating that it is an item of importance.
Since earning the Ascendant Lens is no easy feat, some players were guessing that it could be used for unlocking the Stasis subclasses, similar to how Class Relics were used to unlock two additional elements during vanilla. It isn’t too much of a stretch to think that it could be used for a future gear related quest either since Destiny‘s holiday events have almost always included an exotic weapon pursuit.
There is still much that could be revealed between now and the expansion launch. For one, the obstacle course inside the Infinite Forest seems like a purposefully made playground and not a leftover crumb. The season finale also came early with a month left between it and Beyond Light‘s release. And lastly, Bungie had added to their recent blog entries that the team still has more details to share about how player experience will evolve this November.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
