It’s no secret that the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X are massive. Fans have turned their sheer size into the subject of many memes, most of which compare the consoles to large scale buildings — or even mountains. With that in mind, Microsoft Flight Simulator takes pride in the detailed scenery it uses to complement its realistic flight controls, so it was only a matter of time before someone decided to mod both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X into the game as actual buildings.
Reddit user Oh_Gaz shared their creations on the social media site yesterday. They made both consoles 200 meters tall, and modded them over their respective company’s headquarters. The PlayStation takes the place of Sony Headquarters in Tokyo’s Minato City, and the Xbox Series X replaces the Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington. The next-gen consoles are so huge that they’re impossible to miss while flying.
It’s hard to debate that the Xbox Series X looks better than the PlayStation 5 in the context of a larger-than-life building due to its rectangular shape. However, the latter console does stand out more when turned into a city landmark, partially due to its primarily white color. Oh_Gaz also confirmed it’s much easier to land a plane on the PlayStation 5, though this seems a little hard to believe considering the top of the Xbox Series X is so flat. Regardless, players can land a plane on either console, and that’s all that really matters.
In the comments of Oh_Gaz’s posts, fans have joked about how the Xbox Series X mod finally gives Microsoft Flight Simulator “Xbox support.” The Flight Simulator franchise has been around for over three decades, and yet the current entry hasn’t managed to make its way over to Xbox consoles; it’s currently only on PC. Microsoft does plan to release an Xbox version of it sometime in the future, but it hasn’t provided a specific release date for the port yet.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Xbox version stacks up to the PC variant when it releases. Mods are one of the key aspects of Microsoft Flight Simulator‘s popularity, but it’s harder to include them on gaming consoles, so it may be impossible to see fan-made ones such as these PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X buildings. Even so, Oh_Gaz said they will release both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X mods in a few days for PC.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is available now on PC, with an Xbox One version in development.
