Crash Bandicoot, Doom Guy to Get Nendoroids | Game Rant

Nendoroids continue to be a popular figurine option, with the unique style of the models charming buyers across fandoms. 2020 has been a big year for the company seeing its most expansive push for some of the most requested character models ever. It was back in March that pre-orders opened for Animal Crossing‘s Isabelle Nendoroid and since then many more beloved characters have been announced for release. For the next Nendoroid entries, it seems the options are for two very different video game protagonists.

Nendoroid Manufacturer Good Smile Company has announced two new models celebrating western video game icons who had a strong 2020. Good Smile Company unveiled the upcoming Nendoroids based on Crash Bandicoot and the insanely overpowered and violent Doom Slayer. The reveal of both figurines came from the manufacturer’s “New Product Gallery” as part of Wonder Festival 2020 online.

Both figurines are displayed in their early phases as grey models with none of the additional add-ons. They are gorgeous chibi-fications of both characters each capturing something very different. For the Doom Slayer (or canonically the Doom Guy), it’s pretty charming to see him shrunk down with an oversized head and detailed chiseled armor. While the Slayer is likely to have numerous options for poses through additional pieces, the demo model shows him brandishing the Crucible Sword with his hidden blade.

As for the Crash Bandicoot Nendoroid, it fits in much more nicely with the cartoonish style. While not straying too far from Crash’s initial design, it definitely looks more faithful than the Crash Bandicoot Funko models from 2017. Much like the Funko models that released soon after the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, the announcement of this new Nendoroid coincides with the beloved PlayStation mascot’s return in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

These new models are likely part of Good Smile Company’s expansive push to license characters from all video game genres and platforms. While the Doom Slayer may seem an odd choice for a Nendoroid, it is more sensible than some others that have come before it. It was announced back in June that The Last of Us 2‘s Ellie would get her own Nendoroid figurine. This year’s Doom Eternal may be a gruesome adventure through Hell and back, but it doesn’t quite match the gritty realism and violence of The Last of Us 2‘s dystopian world.

Since these Crash Bandicoot and Doom Eternal models were just unveiled at the Wonder Festival, Good Smile Company did not announce any release date information or even an estimated cost. Considering both previews have a big “Pending Licensor’s Final Approval” notice at the top of each, they likely won’t release any time soon.
