Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone have begun to celebrate the spooky season with bundles based on the Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. The Saw bundle, which can be purchased for 2,400 COD Points, has a number of fun goodies for fans of the film franchise, including a Legendary operator skin based on Billy the puppet, an Epic tricycle charm, and a few specially-themed weapons. One of those weapons has stood out to players for its particularly gruesome in-game effects.
The official description for the Saw bundle tells players that included weapons “change the Tracer fire to Blood Red and apply the Dismemberment effect,” according to a listing on COD Tracker. However, its Legendary throwing knife called the Phlebotomist (a pointed reference to medical practitioners who collect blood samples) has turned heads after Call of Duty: Warzone players discovered it hidden in loot rotations around Verdansk.
One video uploaded to Twitter last week by professional Call of Duty player Ryan B., a member of the KARNAGE Clan, shows the Phlebotomist in action as it burrows into an opposing player while screeching like a dental drill. In the video this weapon initially looks like a simple red button because of a Warzone graphical glitch, but its in-game effect is squeamish for anyone who has ever been to the dentist, making it a seemingly perfect tool for playing Call of Duty this time of year.
The most recent update to the current Call of Duty games also added a brand-new shotgun called the JAK-12 that has the potential to be very overpowered with the right loadout. Despite the impending release of Black Ops Cold War, it seems Infinity Ward and Raven Software have plans to keep Modern Warfare and Warzone running with fresh content.
Call of Duty: Warzone in particular has plans to tie in with Black Ops Cold War, but there are other events in the pipeline beyond that. For example, Activision has announced a horror-themed Halloween event for Warzone that should, in theory, be a good companion to the horror movie characters and weapons released through recent bundles.
Fans of the series who would rather wait for the release of Treyarch’s upcoming title to get their Call of Duty fix don’t have to hold their breath for long. The ongoing Black Ops Cold War beta is seeing updates throughout the rest of this weekend, and the full game will be available come November.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
