Xbox Game Pass Getting LucasArts Remasters | Game Rant

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass continues to add a slate of new titles, catering to gamers with a wide variety of tastes. Retro connoisseurs, and fans of adventure games in particular, will want to keep their eyes on October’s new offerings, which include a trio of classic titles from LucasArts.

Xbox Games Pass regularly cycles through its selection of available titles, making it an ideal option for gamers who want to sample a wide variety of different games. Recently, the service has expanded its selection with a number of indie titles, including the Xbox-exclusive co-op puzzler Morkredd. Now, Microsoft seems to be turning its attention to old-school adventure games.

Microsoft interviewed game developer Tim Schafer yesterday on Xbox’s news of the week, and revealed that a trio of remastered LucasArts games would be headed to the service. The remasters include Day of the TentacleFull Throttle, and Grim Fandango. Schafer worked on each title during his tenure at LucasArts, and he developed Double Fine’s Brutal Legend, which is also headed to Game Pass this month.

The Game Pass release of these classic adventure games were announced earlier this year, though no release date was given at the time. The titles, hailing from LucasArt’s golden age of point-and-click adventure games, are highly-regarded titles in their genre. It will be interesting to see how the games are received by modern audiences, as point-and-click adventures have become rare. In their heyday, the games were praised for humorous writing and surreal circumstances.

Nostalgic and newly-intrigued gamers will also be able to purchase the games for $15, though it would likely be more frugal to subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate for a month or two. Microsoft is currently offering a trial price of $1 for the first month of Game Pass Ultimate, and $15 a month thereafter.

PC gamers who are undecided about Game Pass offerings may want to check out a browser extension that reveals Game Pass titles on Steam. While Game Pass has a broad selection of titles, including a number of former Xbox console exclusives, many of the titles have been available on other platforms for several years.

The benefits of Game Pass may be expanding in the near future, however. Microsoft recently partnered with Funimation to allow Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to access its anime streaming catalogue for a limited time. Arguably, Game Pass’ greatest strength is providing subscribers with as many options of entertainment as possible.

Remastered editions of Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, and Day of the Tentacle are coming to Xbox Game Pass October 29.
