Ambitious Fallout: Miami Fan Mod Project Shares Fall 2020 Update

Fallout 4 comes from a series with a lot of dedicated modders and content creators, and one DLC-sized mod that has taken a large amount of effort and skill is the upcoming Fallout: Miami. Recently, the team behind the mod took to YouTube to share a progress update for fall 2020, and offer a peek into some more plans for Fallout: Miami‘s development.

Fallout: Miami is a mod for Fallout 4 that will take players to a new setting and include an original main quest, multiple side quests, as well as new weapons, enemies, NPCs, and companions. The former tourist destination of Miami Beach has been turned into the Vacation Wasteland, where multiple factions struggle for either freedom or the quest to impose order in a post-bomb world.

The ambitious modding project recently showed off an environmental trailer for Fallout: Miami that gave players a closer look at its setting. The trailer also showed off some action and combat, and is one of the newest updates after a bout of silence from the team. This latest video shares a lot of the more creative strides the mod has made, including writing, music, and art.

One of the main focuses for the modders is writing, which is understandably a major undertaking. Things have picked up in terms of music, and the video shows off “Grim Fandango, a Cuban-inspired melody made for the mod by Garrett Beelow. There’s also some concept art, like a drawing by Oliwia Białek of some characters from one of the new major Fallout factions: The Slavers of Sunshine Cove. There’s a ton of concept art for other elements like strange exotic plants and locations.

The concept art combines with the video narration to reveal a lot of interesting facts about the lore of the Vacation Wasteland, as well as settings like Santos Firearms and characters like the kindly schoolteacher Kota Church. However, the creators of this Fallout 4 mod are careful not to reveal everything there will be to find in Fallout: Miami, as they want there to still be some mystery and intrigue going into the mod’s release.

The Fallout: Miami team is looking for recruits, and includes a link to the application in the comments of the video. The project members have previously stressed that coordination is important in modding teams, and it can be tricky to balance generating hype with not overextending a mod’s ambition.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
