After suffering several delays, Cyberpunk 2077 is almost here now, with the game recently going gold. Like other games under CD Projekt Red’s belt, Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a vast open-world environment, a highly-customizable character creation system, and futuristic and immersive gameplay is full of story missions and sidequests that will offer a unique and exciting experience.
Throughout the months leading up to Cyberpunk 2077’s release in a few weeks, CD Projekt Red has released tons of gameplay trailers detailing every nook and cranny that the game has to offer. Now, for players who can’t wait to explore Night City, here is everything that players should know before buying Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on November 19, 2020, only a few weeks away. On release day, the game will be available on the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. Players on the PC will be able to get Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam and GOG, while the console versions will be available both in physical and digital format. Of course, November also marks the launch of Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S, and for those wondering, Cyberpunk 2077 will also be available on those platforms.
However, it is worth noting that players on the PS4 and Xbox One will also be able to play their current-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 on their next-gen counterparts at no additional cost. Cyberpunk 2077 will also receive next-gen versions at some time in the future, and these versions are enhanced to take advantage of all the technological upgrades of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This second upgrade will also be free for those who already own the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world sci-fi RPG developed by the same studio that created The Witcher 3. However, it is worth knowing that CD Projekt Red confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077’s story would be shorter than The Witcher 3, which confused some players, given that the studio previously claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 would be a bigger game. During the third Night City episode that aired several days ago, Senior Quest Designer Patrick Mills explained that The Witcher 3 had a notoriously long main quest. While many fans appreciated the jam-packed content, others never got around to finishing the game. According to Mills, “The main story in Cyberpunk 2077 is slightly shorter than The Witcher 3 because we got a lot of complaints about the Witcher 3’s main story just being too long.”
Of course, despite the shorter story campaign, CD Projekt Red’s claim that Cyberpunk 2077 is a bigger game than The Witcher 3 still holds, given that the upcoming sci-fi RPG will feature a vast open-world environment complete with explorable buildings, a wide assortment of vehicles for players to drive around in, and a highly-customizable character creation system that allows players to recreate themselves or whoever they want to in the upcoming game.
Although players will be taking the role of a specific character named V, they can customize how they look, make the character as gender fluid as possible, and even customize their character’s genitals, which goes to show the level of freedom players have in designing their character in the game. Basically, regardless of what a player wants, it seems like it’s an option. Moreover, players will choose their Cyberpunk 2077 character’s life path, which is basically their origin story in Cyberpunk 2077. The available life paths are Nomad, Street Kid, and Corporate, and each of these choices will dictate the game’s prologue and will play an important role in the overall story.
In the recent Night Wire episode, CD Projekt Red explained how vehicles would work in Cyberpunk 2077. In the game, players can choose between various types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and everything in-between, and each of those types is also categorized into different vehicle classes in Cyberpunk 2077.
First are Economy class vehicles, which are the most affordable and are most likely the most accessible to players at the start of the game. Next is the Executive Class, which, as its name suggests, are the higher-end models of vehicles in the game, and the Heavy-Duty vehicles are more suited for construction and military use. Of course, the last two classes of vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077 are probably the ones that players will be looking for in Night City, and these are the Sport and Hypercars classes.
In Cyberpunk 2077, players are given a wide variety of skills, weapons, and perks that they must utilize in order to survive the cutthroat society of Night City. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person shooter game, players can either approach combat directly with their arsenal of guns or through a more low-key stealth option. Of course, both approaches will have their own benefits and consequences, but overall, success in combat will always be determined by the player’s careful utilization of every perks and skills available in the game.
Weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 ranges from blades, two-handed weapons, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and pistols. Players will also be given various skills and perks that will shape their play style and how they approach various encounters. Of course, players are given the freedom to either grow their skills in favor of a more aggressive combat style or towards a stealthier approach that could involve hacking or coercion of enemies though dialogue. Overall, similar to the character creation system, Cyberpunk 2077 provides players will the freedom to choose however they want to approach every encounter in the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases November 18, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. Xbox Series X and PS5 versions are slated for 2021.
