Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra DLC Confirms Legendary Catch Rate

One of the big selling points for Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s upcoming Crown Tundra DLC, the second half of the Switch titles’ Expansion Pass, is that every Legendary Pokemon from previous entries will be available to catch. While the availability of these Pokemon varies between titles, per the series’ traditional version exclusivity, they will all be readily obtainable to players who go looking, based on new information made available today.

A new feature in Crown Tundra is Dynamax Adventures, during which up to four trainers can battle through a series of three Dynamax Pokemon before having the chance to encounter a Legendary. While other features like Star Tournaments will also add to Sword and Shield longevity, a recent episode of the show Pokenchi focused heavily on Dynamax Adventures and revealed players will be guaranteed to catch any Legendaries they defeat.

Pokemon news site Serebii confirmed the showcase’s report that Legendary Pokemon have a 100 percent catch rate, but also that players will only be able to encounter one of each Legendary – similar to previous features like Soaring encounters in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Even with this restriction, Sword and Shield players should have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to nab every powerful monster from the previous seven generations.

Dynamax Adventures and Star Tournaments are just a few of the new things being added to the Galar Region Pokemon games through its upcoming DLC. Like with the previous Isle of Armor batch, new story beats and Legendary monsters will be available for fans, as will quality-of-life improvements like the Ability Patch.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have hosted a number of different showcases and events to promote the DLC release, which stands out considering Sword and Shield‘s Expansion Pass is the series’ first attempt at this kind of post-launch content. One marketing avenue is Tetris 99, which is rerunning its Sword and Shield event to help promote The Crown Tundra.

Rumors have suggested that Crown Tundra is not where Sword and Shield‘s DLC journey will end. While no official confirmation has been given one way or the other, some believe a third set of DLC may add the Kalos Region into Sword and Shield. This kind of major addition would be a big step forward for the franchise, but at this point only time will tell whether there are plans beyond what has been announced.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now for Nintendo Switch.
