Hades Cosplayer Makes Insanely Accurate Zagreus Cosplay

Hades, a rougelike dungeon crawler, officially launched on PC and Nintendo Switch on September 17, but has been available through early access since December 2018. Hades, published by acclaimed Bastion and Transistor developer Supergiant Games, has sold over one million copies thus far. The game has been applauded by fans and critics alike, with particular praise given to its character design.

In Hades, the player takes on the role of Zagreus, prince of the Underworld and son of Hades.  Zagreus is trying to escape the realm to get away from his father and reach Mount Olympus, where he can find his birth mother Persephone. His quest is supported by the other gods, who grant him gifts to help fight through the Underworld. He is also helped on his quest by other notable residents of the Underworld, such as Sisyphus, Eurydice, and Patroclus. The game features four “biomes” of the underworld: Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium, and the Temple of Styx.

Many cosplayers have attempted to emulate Hades‘ main character Zagreus. Cosplay is defined as the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime. On October 14, Twitter user Geheichou, a popular Spanish cosplayer and artist, posted photos of their take on Zagreus, which has gained attention of fellow cosplayers and fans of the game for their accurate depiction including makeup and a styled wig.

Geheichou has received comments from other cosplayers and fans on Twitter such as yutari2, who said, “I thought this was a painting, but regardless excellent makeup and lightning here.” Another fan, FearRanger wrote,”This is absolutely STUNNING!! I legit thought this was a painting at first, you pull Zag’s look off so well!” The Twitter post of their cosplay has received over 28,100 likes.

Geheichou has brought many iconic characters to life with their cosplay. The cosplayer’s take on Barbarian Link from Zelda, Cloud from Final Fantasy 7, and Kicks from Animal Crossing are favorites among enthusiasts. Through Geheichou’s cosplay and art he has amassed a large following on both Twitter (around 106,700 followers), and Instagram (around 343,000 followers).

According to the cosplayer, these photos were just a make up test run, and the look is not complete. There is no doubt fans will be impatiently awaiting this cosplayers final look. The characters in Hades have a unique design and would make strong candidates for cosplayers in the future.

Hades is available now to play on PC and Nintendo Switch.
