Monster Sanctuary is headed to consoles very soon. Developed by Moi Rai Games (Denis Sinner) and published by Team 17, Monster Sanctuary first launched in Early Access on PC last year, but will see a console release on December 8, 2020.
A new trailer has just been released for Monster Sanctuary to announce the game’s availability on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. The video highlights the game’s Metroidvania-meets-Pokemon mechanics and features, including monster collecting, fighting, and exploration.
Monster Sanctuary was first revealed as a Kickstarter in 2018. The game has players discover creatures through exploration, while also hatching and raising said monsters similar to Pokemon. However, the game also focuses on exploration through Metroid-like backtracking. Players find and use equipment, as well as call upon the assistance of new monsters, to allow them to progress further and further through the world.
Although the Pokemon series is usually the first considered when it comes to monster collection, there are plenty of successful games in the genre. Titles like Monster Rancher, Yo-Kai Watch, and Ni No Kuni all have their own unique spin on the style, and Monster Sanctuary‘s take is incorporating Metroidvania exploration in 2D sidescrolling pixel-art. Now that the game is coming out of early access, more players will be able to see if this is one of the better monster-collecting games, as entries into the genre that mix up the formula are certainly welcome.
Monster Sanctuary is available now through PC early access, and will release on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One on December 8, 2020.
