PS4 App Apparently Getting Upgraded for PS5 | Game Rant

The improvements being made by the PlayStation 5 have been detailed heavily as of late, which makes sense for Sony considering how close the console is to its official release. Another area possibly improved upon in the next-gen console seems to deal with gameplay recording, as a new version of the Share Factory app has been leaked for the PS5.

While the recent PlayStation 5 UI video showed off plenty of new or updated features coming to the console, nothing regarding Share Factory was shown. The original app on PS4, though limited, allows players to edit clips of their gameplay directly on the console. Resetera user Toumari posted a potential screenshot of the new version of the app yesterday, and its inclusion with the PS5 seems likely.

Toumari found the new version of Share Factory on the redesigned PlayStation Store website, with the app now going by the name Share Factory Studio. The app allows for support for the PS Camera and, oddly enough, the Singstar microphone. Neither are required, though, so all players should be able to make use of the editing software if interested. The image for the app shows a stylized gamer with a headset, providing no real details on what changes may have come to the app.

A second leak from Twitter user PS5 Countdown yesterday supposedly showcases the description of the app, detailing its new features. The app apparently has 4K HDR support, as well as “stickers, text, sounds, effects, filters, camera effects, and more” to help customize the created clips. The leak for Share Factory also seems to be hinting at another leaked PS5 feature that has yet to be discussed: Game Base.

Whatever Game Base is, players are confirmed to be able to share clips “directly to [their] friends” within Game Base. Perhaps this feature could act like PS4’s “News” tab to showcase accomplishments such as earned trophies or ranks achieved in multiplayer. It could also show what users are playing, allowing friends to join easily from one menu. This is all speculation, however, as the Game Base feature could be anything.

Share Factory Studio purportedly allows players to import videos and images to edit as well, a feature that should see the app getting more use. Lastly, a deeper photo editor has been added that allows players to “create [their] own unique memes,” and thus join in on meme making for games like Fall Guys. If these new features are legitimate, Share Factory Studio seems to be a big step up over its predecessor.

The PlayStation 5 will be available November 12 in select regions.
