Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Players Notice Inaccurate Gun Camo

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare prides itself on a certain sense of realism, but fans have started to notice errors in the game. While there are tons of bugs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans to point out, other times there are legitimate mistakes that made it past testing.

Fans are fast to find errors the more they spend time with a game, from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans noticing inaccurate blood types to entire models that are surprisingly wrong. This time, players have noticed some inconsistencies with the snake-inspired skins in the game.

Reddit user dehaven11 noticed that in the game’s camo selection there is a set of reptile skins for every gun. The last option on that list is titled “Gartersnake” and has a bright red, orange, and yellow pattern. While most fans probably never thought twice about it, dehaven11 noticed that this is not the pattern of an actual Garter Snake. The Garter Snake has a black body with yellow stripes running along its side and back, while the Modern Warfare gun’s pattern matches the Coral Snake’s iconic skin. The other fact that makes this even more interesting is that Garter Snakes are practically harmless, whereas a Coral Snake holds a deadly venom.

Fans in the comment are shocked that they never noticed this exchange and many wonder why the developers chose a harmless snake for gun camo. Some fans point out that the intended pattern may not be a Coral Snake but potentially Corn Snake or a Scarlet King Snake.

This is not the only mislabeled gun camo that uses an animal pattern. The Bengal Tiger skin is called Africa despite tigers not being found anywhere on the continent. Tigers are native to Asia, which makes the Bengal Tiger Skin another inaccurate case.

One fan did note that there is a different variety of Garter Snake that could be the inspiration for this camo. The Coastal Garter Snake closely resembles the camo, but a Coral Snake better fits the nature of the game and the design. Some fans in the comments shared their frustration that there are so many inaccuracies in the naming conventions of the skin, but thus far the devs haven’t acknowledged them.

Still, it is interesting to compare the real-life animals side by side with their in-game skins. For many, it gives the guns an extra sense of purpose when they use an animal pattern as a camo.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
