Xbox Series S Retail Box Spotted in the Wild | Game Rant

It’s almost hard to believe that both the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S will finally be commercially available in just a few weeks. After months of teasing and additional information getting periodically released, members of the gaming community will finally be able to get their hands on the next-gen console. Now, when going to pick up the console, consumers will know what to look for, now that the Xbox Series S retail boxes have started to appear in various locations.

In the months leading up to the release of both respective consoles, quite a lot of information has been revealed regarding the Xbox Series S. While its specs are weaker than the Xbox Series X, it has backward compatibility with a number of games from previous console generations and a reduced price, so the Series S definitely has a lot going for it.

While the design of the Series S retail box was revealed back in September, retail units are starting to be delivered to various stores. After retail boxes of the Xbox Series X were discovered over a week ago, it seemed likely that people would start to see Xbox Series S retail boxes popping up everywhere.

Given how small the size is compared to all the other Xbox consoles, it makes sense for the retail box to be equally as small. The retail box of the Xbox Series X is quite large by itself, so it’s almost surprising to see such a small package. There isn’t exactly a side by side comparison between the two retail boxes, but it certainly looks smaller comparatively.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how this console does when it releases. It somewhat feels like the odd console out, considering that there isn’t a PlayStation equivalent, other than the PS5 Digital Edition, but the console design is exactly the same as the standard edition of the PS5 and retains the exact same technical specs of the standard edition of the PS5 as well, just without the disc drive.

With any luck, the console will attain the same degree of success as the Xbox Series X. Although, some concerning details regarding the Series S have game developers worried. The CEO of Quantic Dream expressed concern over the Series S dragging down next-gen development. Only time will tell if the Series S will be able to stand on its own two feet.

The Xbox Series S is set to launch on November 12th, 2020.
