People who plan to play and stream Cyberpunk 2077 are getting some good news: the game’s official Twitter account announced today that all of the music in the soundtrack is completely original. This means that hopefully, Cyberpunk 2077 Twitch streamers won’t get hit with copyright claims.
Cyberpunk 2077 is finally getting released after being delayed multiple times, and there have been a few controversies around the game including its portrayal of transgender people and CD Projekt Red’s treatment of its employees. Despite this, many people are excited for what looks like a very well-made and interesting game, and understandably there are already streamers lined up ready to play Cyberpunk 2077 on Twitch and YouTube.
Streamer DansGaming asked the Cyberpunk 2077 official Twitter if the game would have a “streamer mode” so that copyrighted music wouldn’t play on stream and slap streamers with DCMA violations. Many people view streaming as an important part of the gaming ecosystem, so the ability of streamers to create content without being saddled with copyright violation claims is an important topic for many. Luckily for those who were curious about this matter, the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter responded.
The official tweet says that more details are coming later on, but for now, gamers can be aware that the devs were mindful of streamers’ rights while creating the game. As such, all the tracks commissioned for the game were made specifically for Cyberpunk 2077, even those that come from outside artists, and so this should make things easier on streamers. The Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack was reportedly created to fit the game’s tone, and it makes sense that it’s made up of all-original tracks for multiple reasons beyond just streamers’ ease.
CD Projekt Red has been accused of violating copyright for music before, which may be another reason why the devs are being extra careful with the Cyberpunk 2077 tracks. A Croatian composer named Elvis Stanić accused the studio of stealing a song for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt last year. Music copyright claims are a common and tricky thing in the gaming industry, and many devs and streamers just want to steer clear of DMCA issues altogether.
Multiple celebrities have already been confirmed for Cyberpunk 2077, including Keanu Reeves, and there are rumors that Dr Disrespect himself will be involved with the game. Fans already have a lot to look forward to in Cyberpunk 2077, and the ability to avoid DMCA claims is another win for both streamers and the fans who watch them.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on November 19th, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
