The Grand Theft Auto series is one of the biggest in video games, but did you know it once had its own wine?
We were surprised as you were when we found this out when Billy Thompson, co-studio director at Rockstar Dundee posted a picture of GTA 2-branded wine alongside a still-sealed PC version of that game on Twitter.
GTA 2 turned 21 yesterday (Thursday, October 22).
A quick Google for Casara Roveri Cabernet tells us that this is a fruity wine, with “good ageing potential” of… up to 10 years. We’re not sure that this will have aged quite as well as Rockstar’s blockbuster crime series and might, in fact, have turned to vinegar by now. We’re just grateful that enough kind of, um, claret is being associated with the Grand Theft Auto games for a change.
The Grand Theft Auto series has shifted well over 280m copies since its 1997 debut, with the most recent entry – 2013’s GTA 5 – having shipped 130m units as of March 31, 2020.
GTA 5 has come to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and is set to launch on the upcoming PlayStation 5.
GTA2 turned 21 years old yesterday and I missed it’s birthday – even though @alisdair_wood pointed it out to me. 🥺
Still got the original PC version in its cellophane and a bizarre bottle of GTA2 branded red wine. I’m sure it will still taste lovely. #GTA2 #feelingold pic.twitter.com/PGcbZI0Rbd

Rockstar Dundee was previously Ruffian Games, but was bought by the Grand Theft Auto giant earlier in October. The two companies have previously been working together on “upcoming titles” as of last year.
Fun fact: Grand Theft Auto isn’t the only video game series to have its own wine. Back in 2018, you could order a bottle for each and every entry in the Assassin’s Creed series.
The post GTA 2 got its own branded wine, and this bottle has never been opened 21 years later appeared first on VG247.
