Pokemon Sword and Shield fans are celebrating the return of various old favorites with the arrival of The Crown Tundra DLC Expansion Pass. The Expansion introduces several new Legendary Pokemon as well, but players will have to catch some existing legends like Regice first.
The Crown Tundra invites players to explore an icy new region of Galar, which hosts Pokemon ranging from Kanto classics like Dratini to the Sinnoh superstar, Gible. On top of these Pokemon arriving to Pokemon Sword and Shield, the expansion introduces new Legendary Pokemon, some of which require additional prep work.
Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are all roaming the Crown Tundra, but players can also unearth Hoenn titans, Regice, Regirock, and Registeel. After doing so, Trainers have the opportunity to battle and capture either Regieleki or Regidrago, the powerful new Legendary titans. Much like in their Hoenn appearances, the three Regi titans task Sword and Shield players with puzzles before allowing themselves to be uncovered.
Each titan rests within a Crown Tundra temple and can be accessed by solving a unique Pokemon puzzle. The temple guarding Regice is found in Snowslide Slope, and when approached, will prompt players to “Walk together with a living crystal of snow.” All things considered, this puzzle isn’t particularly tricky, especially given the presence of Cryogonal in the temple’s surrounding areas.
Cryogonal, the Crystallizing Pokemon, is another one of the many older Pokemon being reintroduced by Crown Tundra. The floating Ice-type resembles a large, menacing, snowflake, and as mentioned above, can be found roaming the Crown Tundra in Snowslide Slope, just around Regice’s temple. The solution to this temple’s puzzle is simply approaching the temple while walking alongside a Cryogonal. Players should catch a Cryogonal and ensure it fills the first party slot. Once it’s walking alongside the player, Regice’s temple will open.
The temple hosts another relatively simple light puzzle, but upon its completion, players can finally battle and capture Regice. Walk across the light panels to make all of them light up, and once they’re all lit, simply interact with the statue at the back of the room. This will initiate an encounter with Regice, which of course, players can also capture.
Thankfully, defeating the powerful Ice-type Legendary won’t make it disappear, so if players accidentally KO the monster, there’s no need to reset. Pokemon Trainers can repeatedly challenge Regice until they’re able to capture it. Unfortunately, its Shiny form isn’t as appealing as that of other Shiny Legendaries like Galarian Articuno and company. That said, The Crown Tundra DLC Legendary Pokemon are “shiny locked” anyways, so Trainers will have to wait a bit longer before meeting any of their Shiny variants.
Pokemon Sword and Shield, and the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC Expansion Passes, are available now on Switch.
