The concept of lore and story for a battle royale game may at first seem silly. After all, gameplay comes first in a battle royale. But upon inspection, lore and story both play a vital role. Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone both rely heavily on storytelling and lore to connect the game’s seasons and deepen player investment. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been somewhat lax in this regard, but improves month by month. And now PUBG is taking a big step, releasing a lore-focused website alongside Season 9.
A short introduction is currently displayed on PUBG‘s new website. It explains that it will help answer questions PUBG players might ask, like, “Who runs the Battlegrounds? Why? What is a Chicken Dinner?” and more. It also says that it will include hints at upcoming PUBG projects, as well as new games from PUBG Corp. The introduction is signed with a Latin phrase, Magni Venari, which means good hunting.
The launch of PUBG‘s lore website is being released in tandem with a variety of new lore content focused on PUBG Season 9. That includes a new trailer titled “Mysteries Unknown – Paramo.” The video is even narrated by Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Jonathan Frakes. The video tells the tale of the city of Paramo and its apparently ageless citizenry. PUBC players can learn the history of Paramo, as well as hints at the mysteries therein, on the new website.
All of the new online content is in celebration of PUBG Season 9, which is out now. Many lapsed PUBG players can now learn about the story going on behind the battle royale, and then join in to experience it going forward as part of the new season.
PUBG is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Stadia support launching October 29.
