The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV spin-off The Falcon and The Winter Solder is one of the most anticipated shows currently in production and potentially an important part of the MCU’s next phase. But star Anthony Mackie has described filming conditions as ‘awful’.
Shooting on The Falcon and The Winter Solder had almost finished before production was shut down due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Filming has resumed in Prague but the safety measures in place have slowed the process down to a crawl as well as raising costs.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Mackie described his situation as being “stuck in Europe” adding, “Everybody’s very afraid of each other. The food is bad because they have to pack it up somewhere else and bring it to us in Ziploc bags. Yeah, it’s awful. You’re literally living in quarantine. It’s not like the NBA bubble where they had a barbershop and friends to hang out with. No, if you get within six feet of somebody, there’s some little Czech dude coming and poking you with a stick saying, ‘You have to move.’”
Host Nischelle Turner then asked Mackie if he had any anecdotes about his fellow MCU star Chadwick Boseman who tragically passed away in August due to cancer. Mackie then shared the slightly surreal moment he first met Boseman in a theater back in 1998: “He was in the black box in an office chair spinning around the room… he goes ‘wait, I’m concentrating, don’t break my vibe’ and he just spins around the room, and I was like ‘…it’s nice to meet you, man’ and he was like ‘I’m almost there!’”
The Falcon and The Winter Solder doesn’t have a set release date but it’s expected to premiere on Disney+ in early 2021.
