Many video games are currently celebrating Halloween themed events and festivities with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare not being an exception. However, part of the game’s Halloween celebration has ceased, as the wearable pumpkin heads for players have been disabled due to a glitch. The pumpkin head was part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Halloween event, known as The Haunting of Verdansk. In it, players have the ability to temporarily earn the right to wear a jack o’ lantern on their heads.
While many players enjoyed this bit of Halloween fun during the event, the pumpkin head is currently disabled for an unknown amount of time for all players. This was announced on Twitter by Infinity Ward alongside other update news. This also included disabling helicopters in Verdansk during night games.
The reason behind the disabling of the pumpkin head is noted as being due to a bug, however, what kind of bug is responsible wasn’t specified in the tweet, leaving players to wonder what could have been so bad that the temporary cosmetic needed to be taken out. It is also unknown if there will be any kind of compensation given to players after the bug is eventually fixed by developers.
Because of this quick update, it is unknown if this apparent bug will be fixed in time for Halloween or if the pumpkin heads simply won’t come back until next year’s Halloween festivities. There is a possibility for some kind of replacement to come out, but it does seem unlikely overall. The status of the pumpkin head may be updated in the coming days by Infinity Ward via Twitter or it could be just enabled as quickly as it was disabled.
With the feature being disabled, if a player attempts the steps to unlock the pumpkin head in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, nothing too special will happen. However, this removal does seem to be global, meaning that Call of Duty players on all platforms are prevented from getting this special Halloween accessory.
Halloween is approaching rapidly, so many other games are also hosting Halloween events. It is unfortunate for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players to lose part of an event that only comes around once a year, but many are likely hoping for the bug to be fixed and the pumpkin head to return. Hopefully, there will still be time to try out the pumpkin head before the event is over, but that depends on how quickly the bug is fixed.
