Video game figurines continue to be the seminal collector’s items for any franchise fan. Between mass-produced and popular options like Funko Pops, the chibi-esque models of Nendoroids or even the pristine detailed statues, there are many options for players to shill out for new desk ornaments. For Metroid fans still waiting for any update on Metroid Prime 4, they now have the chance to buy a stupendous Samus figurine to stare at in the meantime.
First 4 Figures uploaded an unboxing video for the upcoming Varia Suit Samus figurine based on the armor from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The two minute video is something to behold as it examines just how intricate and detailed the pricey model is. This is not the first figurine to receive its own trailer recently, as the upcoming Nier: Automata figurine by manufacturer Prime 1 had its own two and a half minute trailer. Much like the Nier statue, it definitely warrants a viewing.
The unboxing process shows off the 1/4 scale Metroid Prime model, along with some of the unique elements that come with certain editions. There are two variants of the Varia Suit Samus Model with separate prices and features. The standard model it simply the statue itself with no extra features, but just because it doesn’t come with gimmicks doesn’t make it any less gorgeous or expensive. The “Exclusive” Model comes with some extra lighting effects that bring some added life to the statue. There is LED functionality on Samus’ Helmet, Chest, Arm Cannon, Shoulder Armor, Legs, and Booster, all through a rechargeable battery within the stand.
As with any model promoting size and detail, purchasers will be spending a lot of money on the statue. The First 4 Figure Varia Suit Samus statue will cost $444.99 for the standard model while those wanting the Exclusive model will have to pay $489.99. This makes the exclusive model slightly less expensive than a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X console at launch.
These kinds of statues are definitely for the diehards ready to spend a fair amount of cash to display some artistry. While the statues may be out of the price range for most gamers, there are always alternative options for a much lighter hit on the wallet. Nendoroid figurines continue to be beloved memorabilia that licenses all types of products despite the cutesy style. Even the Doom Slayer will be getting a Nendoroid in the future despite the ultra-violence he creates.
As striking as the statue is, it provides a harsh reminder about the lack of any updates on the still upcoming Metroid Prime 4. Developer Retro Studios recently listed new positions for testers and storyboard artists putting further doubt that any news will be coming soon.
